Dr. Shekhar Bhojraj is the first dedicated specialized spine surgeon in India. He was the first doctor and surgeon in India who decided to dedicate himself to spine care, and in the process gave birth to the super-specialty that doctors have since followed and practiced.
After passing out from Mumbai’s KEM Medical College, he practiced there as an orthopaedic surgeon. His increasing interest in the growing field of spine care made him travel across the world to learn more about it. Eventually, he decided to focus on the spine and set up India’s first specialized spine unit at KEM Hospital. The spine unit was doing excellent work but more resources were needed for research and development. He is ex-president and ex-secretory of Associations of Spine Surgeons of India (ASSI) .
